Home assessment

A mobility assessment in your own home

The best place to work out what suits you is the place you will use it. We come to you, look at the rooms, the doorways and the stairs, and match the equipment to your home rather than to a showroom floor.

Why it is worth doing at home

Most of the problems we are asked to sort out are not faults at all — they are products that were chosen without seeing the home they had to live in. Measuring first takes half an hour and saves an expensive mistake.

How you get around now

Where you go week to week, how far, and what you would like to be able to do again. That is what decides whether a 4mph or 8mph scooter, or a different kind of aid, makes sense.

Doorways, turns and thresholds

Widths, tight corners, steps at the front door and awkward thresholds. A product that is right in the showroom can be wrong in a narrow hallway.

Stairs and levels

How many steps, whether the staircase is straight or curved, and whether a stairlift or a platform lift is the better answer for your home.

Where it will live and be charged

Storage space, whether it needs to go through the house, and where a charger can safely sit. This is one of the things people most often overlook.

Comfort and seating

Getting in and out of your usual chair, seat height, and whether a riser chair or a seating change would make the biggest difference.

What will actually help

An honest view, including the options we would not recommend for your situation. Sometimes the answer is something small and inexpensive.

How a home assessment works

  1. Book a home visitRing us or send an enquiry and tell us roughly what you would like to look at. We will agree a time that suits you.
  2. We come to you with equipmentWhere it helps, we bring the products with us so you can see and try them in the rooms you will actually use them in.
  3. We measure and talk it throughDoorways, stairs, storage and charging. Then we explain the options, what each one costs, and what we would suggest.
  4. You decide in your own timeThere is no charge for a home visit or demonstration and no obligation to buy anything afterwards.

What to have ready

Nothing much. It helps if you:

  • Wear the shoes you normally wear outside.
  • Have in mind the journeys you want to make, and where the equipment will be kept.
  • Make sure we can get to the space you want to use it in.
  • Bring a list of questions if you have one — nobody remembers everything on the day.

No charge, no obligation

There is no charge for a home visit or a demonstration, and no obligation to buy anything afterwards. We would rather you took your time and chose properly than felt rushed into a decision.

If a family member or carer would like to be there, that is very welcome — two sets of ears are better than one.

No pressure, ever

Not sure what mobility solution is right for you?
