Stairlifts
Straight and curved stairlifts supplied, installed and repaired by our sister company P&A Lift Installations, with 24-hour breakdown support.
What it does
Straight or curved
A straight staircase takes a straight rail, which is quicker to install and less expensive. A curved or narrow staircase, a landing or a turn needs a bespoke rail made to the shape of your stairs. Both are installed by the engineers at our sister company, P&A Lift Installations.
The survey matters more than the brochure
We visit, measure and photograph your staircase, then confirm where the rail will sit, how much room remains for other people to use the stairs, and where the power will come from. Measurements taken from a photograph alone are a common cause of problems further down the line, so we always come out.
Getting in and out safely
We look at the top and bottom of the stairs as carefully as the staircase itself. If standing up from the seat is the difficult part, or if getting to the bottom step is awkward, that shapes which model suits you — and it may be better addressed by a different solution entirely.
Repairs, servicing and breakdowns
We repair and service stairlifts, including ones we did not supply. Breakdown support is available around the clock through P&A Lift Installations, because a staircase that stops working is not a job for Monday morning.
Who it’s suitable for
People who find their stairs difficult, unsafe or exhausting but who want to stay in the home they know — and who can transfer on and off a seat at the top and bottom of the stairs, with or without help. Also landlords and families arranging a practical solution for someone else.
Who it’s not suitable for
Stairlifts need a power supply near the staircase and clear fixing points, and they take up some room on the stairs — this matters on narrow or shared staircases. They are not suitable for every property, and where a staircase is too narrow, a platform lift or a different arrangement may be the honest answer. Installation and servicing work is carried out by our sister company, P&A Lift Installations.

Questions we are often asked
Always. We come out, measure and photograph your staircase, check what the rail will fix to, confirm where the power will come from and look at how you get on and off at the top and bottom. Measurements taken from a photograph alone are a common cause of problems later on, so we do not quote from a picture.
Usually yes — a bespoke curved rail is made to follow the shape of your stairs, and narrower seats are available. What matters is how much of the staircase needs to stay clear for other people. If a stairlift genuinely will not work in your property, we will say so rather than take an order we cannot complete well.
Good stairlifts run from a rechargeable battery on the rail rather than direct from the mains, so the lift will continue to work during a power cut. The battery is topped up from the mains when the lift is parked. We will show you how this works on the model you choose.
Yes — we service and repair stairlifts regardless of who installed them. Breakdown support is available around the clock through our sister company, P&A Lift Installations, because a staircase that stops working is not something that can wait until Monday morning. Ring 01264 243124.
VAT relief on eligible mobility equipment
Some mobility equipment can be zero-rated for VAT when it is designed or adapted for a person who is chronically sick or disabled, and when the equipment is supplied for that person’s personal use. The rules depend on both the product and your situation, so eligibility is not automatic.
If you think you may qualify, tell us when you get in touch. We will explain what HMRC requires, confirm the price you will actually pay, and ask for a simple written declaration before we supply the equipment. We will only apply the relief where the product and your circumstances meet HMRC’s conditions.
